Nikiwe Bikitsha

Nikiwe Bikitsha brings a fresh, youthful dynamic to the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s Board of Trustees, as one of South Africa’s leading radio and television news personalities.

Nikiwe was the senior news anchor at eNCA for six years, a position that put her at the forefront of major local and international developments, and afforded high-profile interviews with global leaders like Thabo Mbeki, Al Gore, Kofi Annan and Mo Ibrahim.

Nikiwe also co-anchored AMLive on SAfm with veteran journalist John Perlman, and in 2006 received the Women in Media Rising Star Award for excellence in journalism.

This broad media experience puts her in good stead to champion the Foundation’s work in promoting Madiba’s legacy through various outreach programmes, and to create awareness around the Foundation itself and help facilitate its dialogues.

“Madiba embodied so many things. He was a man of principle, humility and consensus building. In trying to build a new nation, which we are still in the process of doing, we need to remember all of those attributes,” says Nikiwe.

“At times when it seems our society is fractured, we need to tap back into his beliefs and what he stood for. He gave us the building blocks and we must not let them crumble. I strongly believe that whatever role you fulfil in society, you can make a difference.”
